My two ají amarillo plants are starting to look sad, they're drooping a little more, and the leaves are turning a brownish yellow. Any advice? I'm in zone 10 (Southern California), and the weather is cooling down a bit. Plants are watered about once a week, though the soil in this part of the community garden is hardpan a couple of feet under and drainage is not good. However, the plants have been looking super healthy until now.

    Unfortunately I think you’re correct. Looks like poor water drainage leading to root hypoxia (lack of oxygen).

    You could try aerating the soil to introduce some air, but steer clear of the area immediately around the stem.
