When I'm baking chocolate chip cookies sometimes one or two will come out different than the rest like the one in the bottom right of the picture. They are all cookies from the same batch and baked the same. What causes some to bake differently sometimes?

Normal cookie recipe of melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla, egg, flour, baking soda, and salt. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes
It could be a hot or cold spot in your oven. Does the location of the weird cookie change? It could also be the length of time it takes you to drop the cookies on the baking sheet. It could also be that your ingredients aren’t evenly mixed.
Because someone took a bite out of it.
My guess based on personal experience is that last scoop from the bowl is never perfectly mixed.
It might be the one or two cookies you form with the last of the batter, which might have a slightly different mix of ingredients, especially the mix-ins.
That’s the snacking cookie
Thats the angel’s share
If you are using chips from a normal sized bag (from the supermarket) save a few chips to add to the last couple cookie’s worth of dough. They always seem to get shorted. I buy 72 ounce warehouse sized bags of chips. I always have to throw in extra chips at the end.
Your cookies look sensational. Even the one with fewer chips.
It’s funny at my house as well. I often have cookies that evaporate completely shortly after they are pulled from the oven.
You forgot to take a bit out of every cookie. That’s how you maintain control and consistency
I’d be willing to bet that those are the last two cookies to be scooped and the dough is a bit warmer than the earlier ones
B/c You have to pay the cookie monster tax 👻
This could be from the cookie dough not being perfectly mixed. A smidge more butter or milk, or flour distributed unevenly changes that cookie.
What’s the recipe those look so good omg 😭
It’s kind of like the first pancake syndrome. ❤️
I wish I still had a pic of my last batch lol. There was one dead center of the pan that was so wonky looking for absolutely no reason
I always eyeball chocolate chip cookies as I place them on the sheet. I fix chip placement/quantity if necessary sometimes you can tell that some scoops don’t have enough or are too buried under the dough to look pretty.
Dough to fixin’s ratio (chips, nuts) and consistency of your scoop size. Also, certain parts of the oven may be hotter and cause more melt at the start of the bake, causing more spread.
Last scoop is almost always more batter and not much chocolate chip. You could mix in a few more chips to make it like the others.
I dunno, but a tiny pinch of Malden salt sprinkled on top would make these THE BEST CHOCO CHIP COOKIES EVAR!
Edit: These cookies look perfect.
That’s the cookie that doesn’t get taken to where ever they are going.
The snackrifice
Weigh the dough balls before baking so you ensure they are exactly the same size
Wait ….. you took a bite out of the one in the top left! And now you are saying it just came out differently?
Clever ploy but it is not going to work.
It’s the sacred chef’s taster cookie. Must be disposed of for quality assurance.
Sorry, I got impatient 🙁
Ut oh! Broke one – you’ll have to eat that one.
My mom always told me there was a mouse
So people can post stuff like this but when i comment in a “popular” subreddit, i get auto modded, comment deleted and then a message saying i need more karma. Cool reddit, v cool
Honestly probably a mix of alot of factors.
Honestly, it’s not fully mixed. This happens honestly. Try to scrape down the bow more frequently (butter+sugar, scrape, eggs, scrape, half of flour, scrape, rest of flour)
I’m gonna need a step by step that even my struggling baker self can follow. Like right now please. Those look great!
I can’t post the picture, but the cookie on the bottom has a little face!!
Probably hot or cold spots in the oven. Do you rotate the pan?
I don’t know but I would never serve it to anyone else, it just doesn’t look good (better save it for yourself 😉 )
I noticed this happens on my last couple of cookies sometimes and it’s generally because they’re warmer than the rest so the butter causes them to spread more. 🙂
The special one
PAC man
Because you bit it /j
I sometimes wonder if it’s because the dough is warmer by the time it gets put in the oven since it’s last, so it spreads out a bit more?
I agree with the last scoops theories, but I also purposely make one or two with hardly any chips because I like them that way. I really enjoy the delicious brown butter blondie dough accented by the chocolate, rather than being taken over by it.
Last scoops sometimes don’t get the same amount of add-ins because your scraping the bowl to get the last scoop or two, resulting in mostly dough and little chip
That was me. I took a sneaky bite
That’s the sacrificial cookie.
Hah! I thought you meant the one with the bite and thought “that’s hilarious, I’ll show my husband because it always happens to me too!” 😅 I was screenshotting it and everything!
My answer to your actual question is something about a smaller amount of chocolate in the bottom of the bowl due to the last cookie containing what you scrape out of the bowl.
It’s the Hallmark of a QA/QC cookie.
Because you bit it…
