Earlier this fall, an exciting new restaurant opened in Redwood Park at the Transamerica Pyramid Center. Featuring modern furniture and elegant decor, enveloped in low lighting, the restaurant has quickly become a favorite among San Franciscans on social media. The new spot, named ama, is the newest venture of Chef Brad Kilgore, located just off Jackson Square. The new space is a restaurant and social club with an upscale menu and stylish design, ideal for a night out.

The new restaurant’s menu features Italian dishes, although Kilgore draws inspiration from Japanese cuisine, particularly in its precision and use of umami. The interior is intended to be inviting, with plenty of comfortable booth seating and lounge couches, while still maintaining a stylish aesthetic. For food, you can expect a range of dishes, from Marbled Fuji-San bread topped with umami butter to a odka pomodoro complete with yuzu whipped cream.

The restaurant opened at the end of September and joins two other Kilgore establishments in the Transamerica Pyramid Center. Cozy Bistro Cafe Sebastion is located nearby, along with a shaved ice and yogurt shop, Madlab, as a refreshing dessert option. The new restaurant is surrounded by numerous other San Francisco eateries, including popular Italian restaurant Cotogna, chic wine bar Verjus, and Trestle, which is known for its 3-course pre-fix menu. Plus, the restaurant is within walking distance of Chinatown and North Beach, which are both packed with San Franciscans checking out popular bars every weekend.

Chef Brad Kilgore is a highly awarded chef, having worked at Michelin Star restaurants before opening his own restaurant in 2015. Located in Miami, Alter is known for its 15-course menu, and it was met with four-star reviews.
