A beloved downtown Jersey City dining establishment said goodbye to the neighborhood last weekend.
Roman Nose, known for its authentic Italian cuisine on Newark Avenue, permanently closed after 13 years in business.
The Fiore family announced the closure on their website and on social media on Oct. 29, revealing that last Sunday would be the restaurant’s final day of service.
“After much reflection and conversation with our family, we’ve made the very difficult decision to close Roman Nose, effective next week,” the owners stated on their website. “This was not an easy choice. But after 13 incredible years in downtown Jersey City, our parents’ well-deserved wish to retire has brought us to this bittersweet moment.”
Roman Nose established itself as a neighborhood favorite with its fresh, made-from-scratch pasta and signature dishes.
Some of the most popular items on the menu included Tagliatelle al Ragù, Cassarecce alla Norma, and Chicken Parmigiana.
The restaurant was particularly praised for its meatballs, described as tasting “straight from Nonna’s kitchen.”
Dessert offerings included tiramisu and house-made gelato from Jersey City’s Milk Sugar Love.
The restaurant also gained popularity for its brunch menu featuring Italian twists on classic dishes, including lemon-ricotta pancakes, frittatas, and the fan-favorite Pizza All’Uovo.
In their farewell message, the Fiore family expressed gratitude to their loyal customers.
They also said that community support made Roman Nose “more than a restaurant — you made it a family.”
“From our family to yours, thank you for being part of the Roman Nose story,” their farewell concluded. “You’ll always be part of ours.”
