saw this listing on my local FB marketplace and instantly thought “no way is someone using AI to promote their baking”. at first i thought maybe they just have a really nice camera but after looking at all of them, i’m convinced it’s AI as they all have that kind “smooth” AI look and they all look too perfect.

now idc what other people do in the sense that i wouldn’t fall for that even if i didn’t make my own bread- but they’re charging $14 a loaf! at that price the least they can do is post pictures of the real product you’re going to get instead of being shady with fake pics. (if they are fake) it just feels like false advertisement and a really really shitty thing to do.

so yeah, mostly wanted other bread-lovers opinions on what you think!

The 4th image doesnt even make any sense. Its def AI

  2. MamesJadison

it gives me a sense of unreality that I can’t describe. I don’t things would melt like that so smoothly on the top of bread?

  3. Notorious_Meerkat

Yeap. Definitely uncanny valley all over the place.

  4. Blueporch

Too many different countertops for one house. Last one lacks any surface.

  5. Lance2020x

The 2nd is the only one I would think was real if I saw it on its own. But based on my experience these are definitely AI

  6. The last picture reminds me of that AI “creativity” lol

There’s just something about AI photos. You can always tell

  8. Glittering-Primary23

The blistering *in* the slashes is a giveaway for me

  9. Makes no sense, perfect melt cheese all the way across the cut, blackened dough, inside of crust that’s browned, whatever the hell is going on in the 4th one, AI run amok if you ask me.

Third picture, lower left corner. Wire rack that has an end that goes… nowhere? Definitely AI.

some people put their own pictures into an AI generator to make them “look better” but it just works against them when they do this

  12. a_duck_in_past_life

Look at the first image. Now look at the wire it’s sitting on. Now look at the back of it. Now look at the front of it. It’s not even the same thing. Small things like this is how you can still pick out AI from reality.

  13. MoeityToity

Yeah these definitely have the tinge of AI. They might have just used an AI app to process their own images but it just looks creepy to folks who know their bread!

  14. Synister_Roll

the second image has this strange purple color on one side, the color and texture are suspiciously like cabbage, it’s AI 🙁

  15. 100%, besides overall uncannyness a few specific things I’d check for;

First thing I look for if I’m unsure is following anything that should have a line to follow and see if its logical. First obvious sign is the wire racks where there are clear inconsistencies in how even and straight the wires are. 2nd clue the flour lines from the proofing basket are merging in and out of each other.

Finally think about how these algorithms work. A human would know how bizarre and impossible a sourdough loaf with a streusel topping only inside the grigne (split part adjacent to ear) of a loaf would be, but AI doesn’t actually know what any of this stuff actually is, it just has correlating tagged assets its visually matching. Maybe an amazing baker would take this on as a project, but when every loaf has this weird confusion of textures it’s obviously nonsense.

Trying to sell bread without showing the crumb? I am not a very good baker but knowing anything about this sub anyone trying to sell their bread would be showing the crumb.

I think they are AI for a few reasons but primarily, if they are not, and you’re taking really professional shots of bread with a whole lighting rig and such… why would you put it on a wire rack? like the choices made for the staging of the bread are really dumb for the quality of the photo, if it were a photo… which is exactly the kind of thing ai would do..

  18. Dani-Boyyyy

The third one has olives on it, do definitely AI

  19. NiceMeet2U

3 is what sold me on AI. The olives are off and the way the cut is facing the front like that is definitely not man made.

  20. SolaireOfAorta

that cinnamon stick is eldritch in nature

  21. RiceFriskyMeats

I have recently started seeing people using generative AI images on FB marketplace of furniture they are selling. Very very misleading and I hate it.

  22. mikeneal_XD

You can kinda see in the shadow under the bread it just doesn’t look like it’s on the wire rack

  23. Pun_Lover387

It’s AI. It’s not that difficult to take decent pictures with just a phone these days. I wouldn’t buy from anyone using ai. I’ve seen other places use AI for menu items. Both times noodles. And those were even more fake looking that this

  24. thejourneybegins42

Don’t you dare shame my perfectly ai shaped bread!

  25. Weather_Long

If it looks like it, it has that yellow color that I don’t understand because it is so characteristic haha
