TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Two people are now facing charges in connection to the fatal shooting of a man who police say was trying to rob a Toledo restaurant Thursday night.
Newly-released court records detail the man and woman’s alleged involvement.
Police say Taylor Raths, 34, and Ronald Hurst, 39, are charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the incident that killed Jayson Brown, 22. Raths has been arrested and Hurst has a warrant out for his arrest, police said.
The incident unfolded at ZaZa’s Wood-fired Pizza and Mediterranean Cuisine, located in a business plaza in the 3500 block of Executive Parkway, just off of Secor Road around 9 p.m. on Nov. 6.
Police at the scene said Brown was trying to rob the restaurant and was shot by someone inside. Brown was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
Charging documents allege Raths and Hurst worked with another person to assault the people inside the restaurant by spraying mace at them. The police affidavits said that ultimately led to Brown’s death.
The affidavit cites surveillance footage and witness statements.
Rath is due in court Monday. Hurst was still not in police custody as of Friday evening.
