Osteria, run by the Cocchia family, has been nominated once again for Scotland’s Best Family Run Business.

The awards celebrate the very best of Italian cuisine and hospitality across the Scotland, the UK and, soon, New York.

The family-run restaurant, located on North Berwick’s High Street, has been serving authentic Italian food for nearly two decades.

Angelo Cocchia, 61, who owns and runs the restaurant with his family, said: “It is very good to be nominated, and we won it last year and a few times before.

“Every now and then, someone will joke if I know somebody on the board, but no, it is very nice we are nominated.

“It has been very successful and helps generate business for us.”

Angelo says that over his 20 years running the restaurant, he has seen East Lothian grow from a “sleepy” place to “action all the time”.

For him, the busy season is no longer just the four or five summer months, with North Berwick now a year-round draw for tourists, golfers and loyal local customers, meaning Osteria enjoys steady trade throughout the year.

Angelo added: “It is a tough industry and you need support behind you, especially since closing and starting over again from Covid, so we are very grateful for that.

“We have been very successful so far and that is down to team and family; without them, I don’t think we could be as successful.”

The restaurant will mark its 20th anniversary next April, with plans for celebrations already under way.

The team at Osteria will find out if they will be crowned winners again at the gala final at the the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow on November 30.
