Ewan Taylor, of the Open Door – Church without Walls at East End Church in Belville Street, is appealing for donations to support the plan to bring a bit of joy at a time of year which can be a lonely and difficult for so many people.
The team at Open Door will make a three-course meal with all the trimmings, then box it up to deliver to those who are struggling or on their own on Christmas Day.

Ewan, a volunteer at the project, said: “I’ll cook it here and deliver it to folk in boxes.
“We knew that there are people who come here quite regularly and that there will be struggling at Christmas.
“We see it every Sunday at our food share, people are grabbing as much food as they can to see them though.”

Two years ago Ewan made dinner for people in the Inverclyde Centre, the area’s soon-to-be-demolished homelessness centre, which was much appreciated.
He said the situation just now is a sad reflection on political parties failing to address the needs of the people of Inverclyde.
Ewan said: “People came together during Covid, that was the people themselves helping each other.
“People in the east end are great. They’d give away their last morsel of food.. That’s how good the people are in the east end.”
Ewan is used to being handy in the kitchen, making a community meal every month at the church.
He said: “It’s an extension of what we do all year round- we don’t have a community meal in December.”
The volunteer is happy to give up a few hours of his Christmas Day in the true spirit of the season and is thrilled that the appeal has already raised over £100.
He said: “I might be the only person they see all day. It lets people know we are thinking about them.”
