Felt like baking this morning, so I made my first chocolate babka.

I don’t have a lot of Jewish bakeries nearby so I’m not sure how accurate this is, but it tastes very rich and deeply chocolatey. I followed Shannon Sarna’s recipe from here:

With the chocolate filling from this writeup:

    > Shannon’s filling recipe isn’t included in the link above, but she gave me permission to share it here. You beat 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) room-temperature unsalted butter with 1/2 cup granulated sugar until smooth. Add 1/3 cup cocoa powder (she recommends Hershey’s Special Dark), 6 ounces melted dark chocolate (you can also use good-quality dark chocolate chips), 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.

I appreciate the technique OP and I’m sure it tasted great but the first thing I thought was “Sauron’s eye” lol

Babka is usually a loaf like a loaf of bread almost. You typically wouldn’t make it into a ball like that as it’s commonly used for French toast. 😅 other than that looks perfect.
