Wineries and vineyards throughout Greece will open their doors on Sunday, November 9, offering free tours, tastings, and special events to celebrate World Wine Tourism Day.

The event invites visitors to explore the country’s wine regions, meet winemakers, and sample a wide array of wines from local estates.

Greece and World Wine Tourism Day

Originally launched in 2009 as European Wine Tourism Day, the celebration has grown into a global event held every second Sunday of November. Greek wineries from Santorini and Crete to Thessaloniki and Naoussa will participate this year, offering visitors guided tours, presentations on production, and opportunities to discover new labels and vintages.

The association of wine producers of Northern Greece is coordinating its annual “Wine Routes of Northern Greece” open day, with 28 wineries participating in the initiative this year. Operating from 11 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon local time, the estates will welcome guests to explore the facilities, partake in tastings, and enjoy the beautiful autumnal scenery of the vineyards of Northern Greece. Certain wineries will remain open until 6:00 p.m., depending on the region.

Visitors can follow eight designated wine routes across Northern Greece. Along the Wine Route of the Olympian Gods and Epirus, estates such as Ktima Katsaros in Krania Olympus and Zoinos Winery in Zitsa will be open. The Wine Route of the Lakes features Vineyards Kamkouti, Voyatzi Estate, Ktima Stergiou, Alpha Estate, and Ktima Kir-Yianni. The latter will receive visitors in Amyntaio near Florina between 11:00 and 18:00.

In the Pella-Goumenissa route, participating wineries include Zin Ideos, the Thomaidi Family’s 3 Genies Winery, and Mikro Ktima Titos.

The Naoussa route features VAENI Naoussa, Tassionas Winery, Argatia Winery, Ktima Kir-Yianni—founded by the late Yannis Boutaris, the legendary mayor of Thessaloniki—Foundi Estate, Boutari, and Klonas Boutique Winery.

Wineries along the Thessaloniki route, Kechris, Domain Florian, and Ktima Gerovassiliou will also open for the festivities, as will Akrathos Newlands Winery in Halkidiki. The Dionysus Route in East Macedonia and Thrace will include Ktima Biblia Chora, Ampeloeis, Nico Lazaridi, Estates Costa Lazaridi, Ktima Pavlidis, Oenops Wines, and Ktima T’Apostoli in Serres. Beyond Northern Greece, estates across Peloponnese, Attica, and Crete will offer similar experiences.

This year’s celebration also features a photography competition titled “Cheers to Autumn Wine Tourism.” Visitors can share photos from their winery visits on Facebook or Instagram using the event hashtags #winetourism25 and the winery name. Five winners will each receive three bottles of wine, with results announced on Wednesday, November 12.

More information on the event, participating wineries, and the photo contest can be found on the Wine Producers Association of Northern Greece’s official website and social media accounts.
