I'm in FL. St. Petersburg, to be exact. I think it's a pretty local thing, but every weekend, there's many corners with a run down pickup truck, a giant smoker trailer, and an old black dude serving up the best BBQ and jerk chicken around. I've noticed these dudes always have a very orange colored BBQ sauce, and it's one of my favorite styles of bbq sauce. Does anyone have any idea how I can find a similar recipe?

Probaly a mustard-based BBQ sauce.
Looks like it might be a mustard based sauce, like a Carolina style, but with some tomato or chili powder / paprika to get the orange color.
Orange juice, mustard, tomato paste , tumeric is the base if it’s anything like I’ve seen in other recipes
SC-style mustard sauce, you’ll find a number of recipes on this site, two I like in particular are this copycat of [Maurice’s golden sauce](https://destination-bbq.com/maurices-southern-gold-mustard-bbq-sauce-recipe-copycat/) (father invented mustard bbq sauce back in the 30s) and (my favorite) this SC’s [best mustard sauce recipe](https://destination-bbq.com/our-favorite-sc-mustard-based-bbq-sauce-recipe/).
Is this Dixons bbq? He used to be all over Lakeland (where I’m from) and he had an orange sauce like this. Made baller ribs.
Cattlemans
You could probably ask them and they’d tell you.
That’s Carolina Gold. I know you keep saying it’s not mustard based, but that’s the thing, Carolina gold doesn’t taste like mustard, with the vinegar, ketchup, and Worcestershire (and spices…)
Where was this from? I’ve lived in the Tampa Bay area my entire life and have never seen a regional orange colored sauce. I don’t think the area really has a distinct barbecue style. Most places around here are doing some other kind of regional style.
If it’s Caribbean inspired I would expect some habaneros and scotch bonnets. Maybe some tomato and turmeric. Even potentially chicken base. Or annato / achiote. Or ground carrots.
It’s Carolina gold. Carolina gold doesn’t taste like mustard
Cattleman’s
Probably tastes like mustard
Salt Lick here in TX has a similar style sauce, and it’s definitely a Carolinas-esque mustard based affair.

Theres a dude on 49th street south that i want to try, checkout millers too its jerk chicken but its still smoked
Looks like Cattleman’s signature Gold Rush sauce. Found in Sysco provided colleges and universities across the country. I prefer it on chicken tenders
It’s likely two parts ketchup to one part mustard. It’s a Georgia thing.
Carolina Gold
I’m in Orlando and we have a guy like that. The sauce is bright orange. I don’t know what he uses but it doesn’t have a distinct mustard based taste like a Carolina sauce.
Gross
Carolina
I was thinking Stubbs
Turmeric?
I made a mango based BBQ sauce that looks kinda like this.
I’m not familiar with the bbq of the area. In Talladega AL, a guy has a “Carolina Twang” bbq sauce that seems like what you are describing.
It’s definitely not the Carolina Gold that I’m used to. It almost seems like a variant of Russian dressing.
Carolina gold ?
Cairo, IL BBQ has a sauce that’s bright orange like this. Shermwell BBQ. It’s not Carolina gold, very vinegary. Apparently thickened with flour.
Isn’t Famous Dave’s Georgia Mustard sauce that color or close to it?
Salt Lick from Texas has an orange colored sauce and is really good!
Sorry to suggest it isn’t mustard, and I have no idea if this sauce tastes similar at all, but there’s a small sauce company in Wisconsin called Smokin’ T’s and their sauce looks awfully similar. Theirs is pretty heavily tomato based.
