I have discussed with my boyfriend recently that it's curious how many Italian products have the "protected designation of origin".
Today he bought some tomato sauce and when I took a look at it I noticed that there's even a type of garlic that is protected. 🙃
Can anyone tell me about it? Is it really special?
We live in Finland by the way.

tbh as an Italian this is the first time I’ve ever heard of it. There’s a ton of DOP and similar stuff but a lot of it is also politics.
