VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A new family-run Mediterranean specialty shop is opening its doors in the High Desert this weekend, aiming to bring a taste of Syria and beyond to the Victor Valley community.
Syriana Nuts House will officially host its grand opening on Saturday, November 8, 2025, with an event scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The store is located at 16936 Bear Valley Road in Victorville.
The celebration will feature a taco truck, a 10% storewide discount, and free samples of sweets and chocolates for guests to enjoy.
The shop is co-owned by Tony Askar and his business partner Albert, both longtime residents of Victorville. “Victorville [has] been our home for over 10 years and we love it here, so we always think of something new in the High Desert to make it glow brighter,” said Askar.

Syriana Nuts House offers a variety of authentic products including Turkish delights, imported chocolates, mixed nuts, Mediterranean spices and groceries, coffee, sweets, and home goods like tea and coffee cup sets.
According to Askar, customers can expect “authentic Mediterranean products, open space and well-organized merchandise with a big welcoming atmosphere.”

The shop will not serve dine-in meals but will carry a mix of ready-to-eat and packaged goods. Many items are imported and not typically found in local markets, addressing what the owners saw as a long-standing gap in the community.
“The need of a good Mediterranean store in the High Desert” was the driving force behind opening the business, said Askar, noting that he and his partner often had to travel down the hill for similar products. “We encouraged it so much to move on and open a special business that will hopefully be a big name for us.”
Askar, originally from Syria, said the store’s name reflects their heritage. “We are originally from Syria so it represents our homeland.”

Syriana Nuts House is active on Facebook, Instagram, and Google, with plans to launch a website and online ordering in the near future. Though not currently hiring, the business is open to collaborations with local vendors.
Above all, Askar says they are looking forward to connecting with the community. “We are excited to serve and meet all of our nice people in the community,” he said.
