Opened my pickles and they have mold 😠why did this happen?
I used the ball canning Dill pickles recipe on their website to a T! Opened these that were water bath canned in August and they have mold on them ðŸ˜

Was the lid sealed when you opened it? Was it stored with the rings on?

Are you sure it’s actually mold? Sometimes there’s a white film that develops in pickles or there’s some kind of sediment that are in the brine but it isn’t actually a mold.

I’m skeptical that what you’re seeing is mold if you followed the recipe. The black spots on the pickles just look the darker spots where the spines come out of.Â
If you’re concerned toss them and try again but also maybe try to find a class or workshop through your local University Extension.Â
Also, have you tried quick/refrigerator pickles before? They’re about 1/10 the hassle of using a water bath and I think come out far better than canned pickles.Â

Maybe not mold. My pickles always end up with a bit of white looking stuff either attached to the ends of the pickles or floating in the jar.
I feel like it’s been discussed before too, but the name/cause isn’t coming to me.
