I weigh 168lbs (77kg) and I’m 5’4″ (163cm). Is this too much protein every day for a sedentary lifestyle?

too much… aim for 1-1.5 g/kg/day

That’s like two and a half 8 oz steaks. Unless you’re weight training the US’s current obsession with protein as the fad of the moment is too much. Go more for about 85-100 grams per day and spread it out between meals if you can.

I recognize the app! Personally I do 40% carbs and 30% for protein and fats. Our stats are close too! I had a weight consultant give me those figures years ago. I was doing 33/33/33 and was miserable. I’m a much happier person with a little more carbs.

It’s fine; you’re right at 2g/kg, which is safe for long-term consumption in healthy adults.

My dr told me 80 grams of protein as I’m not a weightlifter. Am older and pretty sedentary. Too much protein can hurt your kidneys.

It’s not really too much protein, as there’s not really a problem with eating excess protein, aside from the extra calories. Buts it’s almost certainly more than you need, if you’d rather be spending your calories elsewhere.

It’s more than you need but you don’t really do harm by eating extra protein. I’m gonna bet you aren’t getting enough fibre though, and that will do you harm long term.

That is way too much protein if you’re not actively working out. You’d be good with about 80 g of protein if you’re trying to lose weight, the recommended daily intake for women is 50 and for men 60 (for non-weight loss diet)

Wow, I really struggle to meet the minimum protein goals I set, what are you eating to get this?!? Amazing 😆 probably too much protein tho

If you’re sedentary, you’re probably wasting money and energy trying to optimize your diet to fit this standard. Is it harmful? Probably not. But it’s also probably a waste if you’re not exercising. Protein only helps diminish muscle atrophy from weight loss insofar as you exercise to use this protein to maintain or increase muscle mass. If you’re not struggling with eating this much and no doctor has told you it’s not a good idea for you personally, great, keep what you’re doing; but if eating like this is a chore, you’re probably doing yourself more harm than good, cuz a diet that’s more of a struggle to follow is ultimately more likely to be abandoned.

Why are you trying to consume that much protein if you’re not actively working out?

Imo there’s no point trying to hit specific protein goals unless you’re trying to build/maintain muscle. There’s no massive benefit but no real downside either. If you’re not torturing yourself and your diet makes you happy keep it up, but whether or not if it’s “good” or effective, not really.
Higher protein and fat makes you fuller and satiates you more though, if thats your goal to lose weight 🙂
