Just spent an hour scrubbing this puppy down, buddy gave it to me as a housewarming gift. It was grossly covered in rust when I got it. Spent the last hour cleaning it. Soaked it in vinegar and baking soda for a bit, then rinsed it off and got it ripping over coals and used a rag to wipe down with oil. Also a decent bit of elbow grease with the grill brush… I'm good to go right?!

Looks fine with me. Even if it is dirty the fire will do the rest of the work

Honestly I’d probably put some of the stuff you scrubbed off back on there.

Just how clean do you think it needs to be? Do you plan on deep cleaning it after every use?

Honestly looks fine. I use the heat and a brush to clean mine every cook and then end/start with a paper towel and oil to prevent rust and food sticking. Quickly found out that small frequent maintenance like this is the best and easiest way to keep stuff in the best shape, and it doesn’t feel like work (the yearly cleaning was always a chore, my method takes a minute and ensure it’s always ready for a cook and pretty clean

My grill grates prob have similar or more black around the edges, it’s nothing to worry about. If you’re concerned, just get the grill hot and scrub it down a bit and then oil the grates

Looks better than most. New grates are cheap if she’s still concerned.

The grate looks fine. I’d be more concerned about the inside of the kettle. It’s probably ok but I’ve had that grease coating catch fire once, now I pressure wash the inside every couple years.

You’re good. Beyond good, really. Start wiping down the cooking grate with vegetable oil before a cook, it’ll put a seasoning on there. Better no-stick cooking experience and also prevents further rust issues.

Looks good might want to oil the grate a tad with a Paper towel right before you toss the food in next too.

Your flavor savers are super clean. A little to clean.

I let the fire to the majority of the work

Get it hot, use my grill rescue brush, get the crap off, and we’re good to go

You don’t want to over due the cleaning or else you lose the non stick on the grate

I clean my grill once over two or three years. I tell myself I do it every spring but I am a liar. Otherwise just make sure the ash is cleaned out so you have airflow.

Slice an onion in half and rub it on the hot grill

Clear airflow is all you need. Not eating off the bottom..
