I had been to Franklin the day before, brisket was on point. Excited to try burnt bean. Their specials looked really good. We tried the brisket, ribs, chicken leg, Ensenada chicken and house sausage. I was really disappointed. Brisket was ok, not melt in your mouth like goldees or Franklin, or interstellar. The bark was kinda dry. 1/2 chicken in the special was tough and definitely not hot. The best things there were the soup that came with a special and the burger. We were first 20 in line. Goldees is still number 1 in my book. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

Was at the bean Sunday. Brisket had a good taste but was dry…think overcooked turkey dry. Had to take a few drinks to be able to get it down. Ate at Goldees Friday. Everything was top tier. Would stand in that line again if all they sold was potato salad. Leroy and Lewis was really good too. Overall, I don’t see how Burnt Bean was number one. Maybe the overall menu…they have a lot of options.

At least the other places you went to were good. I hate when a place does not live up to the hype. Barbs B Q’s brisket and Snow’s pork steak are 2 things that didn’t live up to the hype for me.

they don’t know what to put on the menu so they put everything on the menu. then people are surprised the whole menu’s shit on a shingle 🤡

Burnt Bean is overrated AF and they have the worst line management in all of BBQ.

Interesting. I’ve found their Burnt Bean brisket and the El Cinco sausage to be top notch. Most of the sides were passable. His barbacoa was also very good, but at $25/lb I can find “reasonably” comparable barbacoa in San Antonio all day long at half that price and no wait or drive to Seguin.

Can’t recommend Barb’s in Lockhart enough. I have to drive past Burnt Bean to get to her and I’d make that drive all day long. She has a wait there too, just FYI.

  6. When I went about 2 years ago, I thought the brisket was very pot-roasty. It was not great. The rest was good, but never blew me away like others places did. I checked my BBQ visit log, and I gave them an A-, which is Top 50ish good, but not #1 or top 10 in my humble opinion.

  7. For the past 5-6 years the Texas Monthly BBQ rankings aren’t really about who has the best BBQ. It’s heavily skewed towards experimental things and unique menus. Burnt Bean isn’t even the best BBQ in Sequin let alone the entire state.

Been twice. First time a few years ago and they were my top spot, everything was perfect. I tried it again earlier this year and it was just ok. Plenty of other places I would rather try again. I’m assuming it was an off day or something and I would give it another chance but I don’t think I’d stand in the long line again to do it and probably not too soon.

Their Sunday brunch was absolutely flawless the last two times I’ve been. Shame to hear their main menu didn’t hit.

Wow, I’ve never had anything but amazing BBQ from Burnt Bean. Sorry to hear you were dissapointed. I’ve been about 10 times, but this when they were ranked #4 on the list. It’s my favorite bbq in Texas, but I haven’t been since they were ranked #1. I still do think Franklin has the best brisket in the state, but I’d say Burnt Bean is second.

This how I felt about Hurtados in Arlington. It was bad per se just a little dryer than I like. I think too because so many people talk highly of them I had high expectations.

When they make list, especially #1, they go through an entire new set of growing pains. Massive uptick in production, etc.

They must just need more time to adjust.

Dude’s an arrogant and giant prick also.
