Yesterday I noticed rust round the handle and lid of my Weber Kettle. I made a warranty claim for it, and today I was told it’s not covered.
Is that normal, do they really not cover rust like this? If not why, and what could have been done by be to prevent this. This is a 2023 model that stays under a patio covered when not in use.

That’s not rust (yet)
I don’t see a single spec of rust in that picture. That’s porcelain damage
That’s negligence, not rust.
Is it effecting the performance at all? What do you honestly expect them to do?
Do you take your car back to the dealer when the rotors get a little rust? When is the last time you checked up on any of the fasteners holding your house together? You gonna file a claim with the builder if you find a rusty nail head?
Come back in 30 years when it’s actually still fully operational and working
🤦♂️
Why does the edge of your lid have no enamel left on it? Do you hang it from the base or throw it on the ground?
Weber warranties for 5 years against “rust-through or burn-through”. It does not cover, “normal wear and tear, cosmetic damage, or damage from misuse.”
I can’t see through the lid – so that’s not rust through. That does appear to be normal wear and tear. Best you can hope for is that it gets a whole lot worse. I’d say store it outside uncovered this winter – but that might fall under, “misuse”.
Does Weber warranty their non-stainless steel enamel coated (charcoal) grills against rust? I don’t believe they do unless there’s a flaw in material or workmanship.
If you’re using your grill out in the rain, snow, high humidity and don’t maintain it (keep it clean and dry it off), don’t cover it nor store it out of the elements, it’s going to rot. It’s just a matter of time.
Has it been dropped? What kind of cover you keep on it?
