I live in Minnesota and just bought a house. It’s been below freezing a few nights so I was surprise to notice peppers growing in my new raised beds!

Looks like cayenne peppers to me, but I’m no expert by far. I grew those before and they look like the same. A lot of peppers look the same to me though lol.

Eat one and describe your eyes and nose following.

Could be a serrano. Looks very similar to mine

Might be short cayenne peppers (usually grow down wards.) Might be Serrano. Might be thai/bird peppers (tend to grow upwards). Could be some hybrid. My bet is that they are a medium heat with a subtle floral hint, and its the flavor that matters, right?

If the red ones have a sweet flavor for the first two seconds they are Cayenne . Not extremely hot but very spicy IMO.I like hot stuff!

Whatever it is it’s dead but there’s no harm in giving the chillis a try, and do let us know how they taste and how intense the heat is since those are great indicators of what variety of chilli they may be

    Holiday bright. Without breaking glass.
