Probably should’ve started with the basics and compared the vanillas first, but here we are.
I will keep this short, because there’s not much to compare.
For starters, both of these are pretty dang good for what they are. Makes me wonder why I never reach for vanilla, thinking I’ll be bored or something. Especially since I LOVE vanilla. (plus, these are also just great to get creative with by adding your own mix-ins).
The texture of Halo Top always seems to be a little bit icier (which I actually don’t mind). Straight out of the freezer, they’re pretty on par, but once left on the counter for a bit Nick’s ice cream texture holds up nicely, while Halo Top’s sort of melts around the edges.
Flavor wise though, Nick’s has a more forward (but not artificial tasting) vanilla flavor. Being less calories than Halo Top doesn’t hurt either.
Nick‘s is the winner.
Now as for the nutritional aspects, I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to the wild ingredients of these diet ice creams (yes, I know, they’re terrible for you) but if anybody has any input on that it’d be greatly appreciated.

I like Nicks for eating (creamier) and Halo top for diet A&W root beer float (melts slower).

I think Nick’s has the better texture but worse flavour/aftertaste. Halo Top tastes alright but is weirdly powdery and icy.
The best I ever had was the Simple Truth brand (Kroger) of No Sugar Added Frozen Dairy Dessert. It was 240 calories per pint with a bunch of fiber and a good amount of protein as well, and it had better taste/texture than any other brand I tried. I think it’s been discontinued as I can’t find it locally anymore.
These days I get Breyer’s Carb Smart vanilla. It’s got a few more calories (100cal per serving), but it’s cheaper and, in my opinion, has a much better flavour than either Halo Top or Nick’s.

I’ve only ever had halo top once, and it was really grainy/sandy, which put me off – maybe I’ll revisit some time

i like the flavor of nick’s better but it absolutely destroys my stomach so i have to stick with halo top

I don’t know about Nick’s, but I loved Halo Top. Then suddenly it wasn’t available anymore in Germany. Honestly don’t understand why, all other brands of this kind were bland all these years ago
