Lucanian food and wine excellence was the protagonist of the event “Basilicata, Land of Elsewhere: where flavors and culture meet,” held yesterday at the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb on the occasion of the 10th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World (SCIM). The initiative, which was the result of the collaboration of the Italian Embassy in Zagreb with the municipalities of Aliano and Cancellara and the Local Action Groups Lucania Interiore and Lucus, was attended by Croatian authorities and representatives of the diplomatic corps, as well as the business and cultural world, who were able to taste the gastronomic proposal conceived by chef Anton Pastore to enhance the products and recipes of the Lucanian territory, expertly combined with Italian wines and sparkling wines selected for the occasion by Sommelier Stefano Pastore. The event will be repeated this evening at the Palazzo Modello in Rijeka, thanks to the collaboration of the Consulate General and the Community of Italians in Rijeka and with the participation of the folkloric group “I Tarantolati di Tricarico,” and is part of the busy program put together by Sistema Italia in Croatia to celebrate the 10th edition of SCIM, dedicated this year to the theme “Italian cuisine between health, culture and innovation.”
Of particular note is Italy’s participation, as a Partner Country, in the traditional festival “Jela z Dugog Sela” last September 20, made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Embassy in Zagreb with the culinary institute Kul IN and Miva d.o.o.; the gastronomic fair “Sapori d’Italia”, organized by the Italian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the International Electronic Trade Exchange (BICE) last October 23; the participation – thanks to the activity carried out by ICE-Agenzia, in collaboration with Assodistil – of Italy as a partner country in the International Zgrappa Festival held on November 7-8 at the Zagreb Fair, with the presence of a stand in which six Italian distilleries were able to exhibit their products of excellence in the field of grappas, liqueurs and spirits, and with the organization of masterclasses dedicated to the art of distilling and Italian liquor-making, by the expert Leonardo Pinto.
Finally, tastings, presentations and ad hoc gastronomic proposals were also promoted thanks to the collaboration of the Communities of Italians in Vrsar and Momjan and restaurants in the Croatian capital and other locations. The SCIM 2025 celebrations in Croatia will conclude on December 10 at the KIC in Zagreb, with the screening of the docufilm “The Fifth Season” dedicated to the stories and successes of five great Italian chefs, an initiative promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb.
