The magic of Mediterranean cuisine is not only in its flavours but in the feeling it carries — sunshine, fresh ingredients, long shared meals and that unmistakable coastal ease. And while you might not be able to slip away for a week by the sea, you can still capture a slice of dolce vita right here in Budapest. We’ve rounded up a selection of restaurants and pizzerias where authentic Italian flavours, seasonal ingredients and a touch of sun-soaked charm come together beautifully.

Goli

Goli is one of those places that instantly feels like home — the kind of spot where popping in for lunch feels more like visiting a friend who just happens to cook exceptionally well. The open kitchen sits right in the middle of the space, so you can watch dishes come together, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

What really sets Goli apart is the owners’ commitment to fresh, seasonal produce. They personally visit the wholesale market to buy ingredients directly from local farmers, ensuring everything on the menu is as fresh as it gets. That means you might find grilled cauliflower, roasted pumpkin with black-pepper spinach cream, Brussels sprout yakitori or kohlrabi salad with Zala-grown persimmon — all vibrant, honest flavours.

They’ve recently introduced fish farmed in Hungary to their menu. And just like in the Mediterranean, Goli is best enjoyed the sharing way: order a few dishes for the table and taste everything together. This is where the true spirit of their cooking shines.

Fermento

Fermento brings a slice of Naples to Víziváros, just a short walk from Batthyány  tér , serving Neapolitan pizzas, pizza fritta and arancini made with real heart and soul. Many of us love Neapolitan pizza, but fewer know how strict the rules are for a pizza to truly earn the name: high-quality ingredients, a long fermentation, a specific hand-stretching technique, and a blistering bake — no less than 60 and no more than 90 seconds in the oven . At Fermento, every box is ticked. Their dough rests for 48 hours , and they rely exclusively on DOP-protected ingredients.

Alongside the classics, they also create a monthly limited-edition pizza, and right now the spotlight is on the pleasantly spicy Il Calabrese, topped with fiery Italian ’nduja. Don’t skip dessert either — their homemade tiramisu and panna cotta are both must-tries, and an Aperol or Limoncello Spritz completes the dolce vita feeling.

The restaurant is fully family-friendly, welcomes four-legged companions, and works equally well for business lunches, friendly catch-ups or a relaxed date night.

Amore di Napoli

We’ve long been fans of Amore di Napoli on Karinthy Frigyes út, and the team was also behind the much-loved pasta spot Pasta e Basta . This summer, the two merged into one, creating a seamless fusion of pizza and pasta backed by decades of culinary experience.

Their Neapolitan pizzas are excellent — the dough rests for 48–72 hours before spending exactly one minute in the oven — but the menu goes far beyond that. You’ll also find a unique salsiccia smash burger, classic Italian dishes like saltimbocca (thin veal wrapped in prosciutto), and a line-up of truly heavenly pastas. The flour and tomato sauce come straight from Italy, just like the hams and cheeses, many of which carry prestigious DOP certification.

Amore di Napoli is easy to reach by tram, and if you’re arriving by car, there’s a car park conveniently located right across the street. Whether you’re in the mood for pizza, pasta or a standout main course, everything here is made with authenticity and passion — transporting you to Naples with the very first bite.
