I received this, along with the ingredients from my local food bank. I wanted to share it for those wanting to make a simple chili. (You can use just diced tomatoes I'd you want it less spicy. I added canned chicken, rice and leftover taco sauce to mine.

  1. It’s very similar to the chili recipe I make. I’ll add fresh veggies if they’re in season or less expensive than the canned items.

Most people probably don’t have a pressure cooker for canning, but cooked beans freeze well in mason jars or freezer bags. Save even more money by buying dried beans.

Add a tablespoon of (cider) vinegar to give it some tang.

Please drain and rinse the beans. It improves the flavor so much.

I made basically that recipe for dinner last night. I added some frozen diced sweet potatoes I had, and some smoked paprika. I would have thrown in a can of corn, but forgot I was out.

I should try this, I’m looking for a good, simple, cheap vegetarian chili of some sort …

A whole packet of chili seasoning sounds like overkill

Sounds good to me, especially with cornbread.
