Italian cuisine could become a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Italian cuisine has been nominated to become a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The nomination does not concern a particular dish or a single recipe, but all of Italian cuisine, seen as a shared cultural model, made up of community experiences, conscious choice of raw materials, conviviality of the meal, transmission of knowledge to the new generations and respect for the seasons and territories.

The final decision will be taken during the Committee’s session in New Delhi from December 8 to 13. International experts will evaluate the cultural value of Italian tradition, the sustainability of practices and the ability to transmit knowledge to future generations.
