Recall alert: Moringa supplements recalled due to salmonella outbreak in the US |

Recently, several dietary supplements containing moringa leaf powder have been recalled after numerous consumers contracted salmonella. Know more about the products and areas of outbreak here. What are the recalled products?Products manufactured using a single lot of recalled organic moringa leaf powder from Vallon Farmdirect of Jodhpur, India have been linked to at least 11 illnesses and three hospitalisations in a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella, stated the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).The affected products include Food to Live brand’s Organic Moringa Leaf Powder bags. They belong to the labelled Batch No.: VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24 with best by date (BBD) of November 2027, in these sizes:8-ounce1-pound 2-pound 4-pound8-pound16-pound44-poundThey also include Organic Supergreens Power Mix with lot codes of SO-69006 through SO-72558 in sizes:8-ounce1-pound1.5-pound3-pound6-pound12-poundAfrica Imports’ Organic Moringa Leaf Powder (1kg box) sold after June 5 are also affected, along with all Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder products, regardless of lot codes and best by dates. What are the areas of the outbreak?Cases of the illness have been reported in Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. What to do with the recalled product?It is important to note that these supplements were distributed nationwide through both retail and wholesale channels. They were sold via Food To Live’s website and major e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy, and eBay. Thus, no matter the source, if you have the supplement bag, it is recalled. According to the FDA, consumers should refrain from eating the supplements, while retailers must refrain from selling them. The agency has urged people to discard the products and sanitise any surfaces that the product or containers may have touched. How to know if you have been affected?Salmonella is a group of bacteria that causes gastrointestinal illness and fever, according to the FDA. Symptoms often begin to appear after 12-72 hours after infection and include diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps, high fever, headaches, lethargy, rash, and blood in the urine or stool. If you experience any of these symptoms, immediately contact a healthcare professional. According to the FDA, the investigation is ongoing and authorities are continuing to “determine what additional products were made with the implicated lot of moringa leaf powder.”
