I’m actually so proud of this one. It looks just like a sloppy Joe. Look at that. If this is your first time being poor, I’m Kiki Ruff and I bought new equipment that did not capture the audio. So, we’re going to do our best and truck along. As always, I do not know what you have in your house. I prefer lentils for this recipe, but you can also use beans, and that’s what I got. So, we’re going to make it with beans today. Sorry, that was a statement, not a question. But do you remember when I told you that spices and sauces were the new sweet treats? We’re going to double down on that because today the star of the show is barbecue sauce and barbecue. It’s time. Boil your freaking pan or I will haunt you. Doing this voiceover playback thing is kind of fun. Okay, so you’re going to try to start browning this so it doesn’t end up just being bean mush. Do it on medium heat. And while you are cooking this, um, once it’s browned, especially with the cooked or soaked lentils, you’re going to watch it till it gets a little bit brown and then start putting in extra barbecue sauce. You don’t want to do it early though, otherwise you’re going to end up with like some mush and you’re not going to be happy with me. Also, like look at how that turned out. Gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. Big fan. Look at that. I’m super proud of that because it does look like a sloppy joe. I feel like you could trick someone with this, but you probably shouldn’t lie to them about what you’re serving them. But look, it’s a sloppy joe. All right, you guys. That’s what I got. I don’t know if you can tell, but I did get some new equipment. So, please bear with me while I figure it out. Please remember that you deserve to eat. And also I love

I just want to say, great pivot, love how you roll with the punches, and the voice over ruled, thank you, and keep on rockin.
@Liam
You are making Meatless Monday less boring for me. Thanks for sharing!
Brown it first, then BBQ sauce, got it, no mush here 👌
yesterday I put scar oil on my surgical scar and told myself "Oil your scar! Oil! You! Scar!" in your tone. Thank you for that.
I did something similar to this with shredded super firm tofu!
I think you have a future in ADR
That was just the right amount of lighthearted chaos. The voiceover was so much fun!
BBQ sauce is one of my favorite condiments for adding flavor to chili, stews, and bean dishes.
KIKI I SAW YOU ON TV YESTERDAY IT WAS SO EXCITING!!!
I cook most of my meals at home, so lemme tell ya, every time I oil my pan…
That looks yummy. I make boston style beans in slow cooker and spread leftovers on toast. 😋 (breakfast!)
I thought this was an AI video at first.
Sloppy Joe doesn't taste like BBQ sauce?
BBQ beans on a bun still sounds great but if you want the classic sloppy joe flavor, you need either a can of sloppy joe sauce (can be found for less than $1) or add some ketchup to that pan as well.
I'm on wic and get tofu covered, I made tofu sloppy Joe's the other day my family loved them, it also covers tomato paste so a made my sauce with that as the base.
If you dry out the beans a little in the air fryer o or oven and mix in a little rice it makes the texture more "meaty"
Does anyone know a good substitute for tomato? I’m allergic but have been craving a sloppy Joe so badly😭
Why am I hear for the voice over, like watching a poorly dubbed foreign film. I can't stop laughing for some reason
Liam needs to see this!!
I dont think you should feed people, unknowingly, things they wouldn't eat. But if they would eat it just not in that form I think it's fine to not tell them. I've put lentils in my ground beef for years and people have never noticed!
If you have any nuts like walnuts, grind a small amount (I used 1/4 cup, but I think that was even too much) and add it to your partially cooked beans. Worked great for lentils as well as TVP. It gives the lentils a more ground meat texture as it separates the 'bean clumps'. My meat eating family didn't turn their nose up at this.
Do you have any meat substitutions for chili and spaghetti sauce? I like the texture ground beef brings to both of those things, but beef is expensive and I will mostly likely have to start really limiting if not completely eliminating red meat from my diet for health reasons soon
Like your videos, I also like your lovely milk glass plate, use it everyday 🫶🌞🫶
Does it actually taste like sloppy Joe? I’d expect ketchup in it but I get that one sauce is cheaper than multiple
That Mariah Carrey impression was SPOT ON ❤
That looks like fried chicken
Eggs and eggs taste better with a slight bit of sugar
Ooooooh a little bit of TVP would go amazingly in that to strech it out and add some texture. 😊❤
I love you, too. ❤
I love you too Kiki Rough!❤
I cant remark how important is telling people what they are eating, please NEVER serve something if you are trying to pass it as other thing
When we were living on $20-25 a week for groceries I used to make this, but with lentils (because our food pantry always has lentils and nobody wants them for some reason, so we took home whatever was abandoned at the laundromat), caramelized onions, and meatloaf sauce (aka ketchup, mustard, and sugar). Very fond memories of getting it right and being so thrilled that my babies could have sloppy joes!
Hello! I appreciate the practicality of your meals. Also, I think your hair is lovely.
Is that an English muffin? 😝
That is disgusting
I love the muffin usage. A well buttered muffin is joy incarnate.
I honestly recoiled from that the same way I do from real sloppy joes so 10/10 you succeeded.
❤
😢😢 I had it, and then I added too much water (and meat was going in it anyway)
Needless to say, mine has become mush
If you ever do merch, you totally need to make something that says "Oil Your Pan!", like maybe an oil sprayer bottle or an oven mitt. XD
That's lovely
Kiki, I love all your videos. You are providing such a great resource for people. Great job!!!
