Some of you have mentioned it in the past and I didn’t believe it. Thought it was a rare occurrence. Nope. This was from a bag I picked up at Costco.

I was having issues reaching 450 for grilling some chicken in the smoker. Was taking forever and it was stalling at 345. After I let it cool down, this is what I found clogging the bottom of the gravity grate. So it was blocking the fire from The briquettes and the ash was being built up in the fire box. This pissed me off so much.

Should have listened to the community on this one. Lesson learned. Never again.

Brought to you without commercial interruption, a Charlie Brown Halloween.

  2. I will never buy Royal Oak again.

For me, it was chunks of plastic burning that completely ruined a pork butt.

The flavor and smell of it was enough to break me from the habit before I found any bags with this kind of garbage in them. I can’t believe certain well known bbq guys endorse the stuff. It’s awful

This is straight up fraud! I’d like to know what the weight on the bag says vs what’s actually good product.

I’m starting to see a lot of this lately.
    B&B for me.

Not the worst ive seen; terrible all the same. Only ever buy the costco cowboy stuff myself, if IF it was full of waste id just pick through to get my smoke started and return the rest. Happy to say, ive never had to.

I really like B&B charcoal briquettes. They are bigger than Kingsford haven’t used their lump charcoal but have been very happy with their briquettes.

They’ll do anything to make weight, like a damn boxer.

You should return this to Costco and/or also send them an email about it. They would take it seriously.

It’s so bad that I stopped watching YouTube channels that use or have sponsorship from Royal Oak.

  11. marrowisyummy

At least there was no rebar in your bag like there was in mine.

  12. Kindly_Release_8484

I found a shredded up tire in a bag, so I switched to B&B and it’s much better

  13. Is this a relatively recent issue? I stopped using royal oak years ago because it got hard to find, but I never had any problems. This is an absurd amount of crap – way beyond anything reasonable.

Well I know it is fairly expensive for charcoal, but jealous devil lump has always been good stuff for me. I figure if it costs a bit more but burns a lot more consistently and a noticeably longer amount of time then it’s probably worth it.

Contact the manufacturer. They may tell you to go kick rocks but, hey, you’ll have something to do then!

(RO Mgr) “I said 4 rocks per bag, not 3!!!”

  17. TechnicalDecision160

Email them with this. I’m curious what their response is.

I can also attest that Royal Oak is garbage. A more than full basket in my Big Joe lasted less than 12 hours on a brisket smoke this past weekend. Never again.

Buy 50 bags, get a free gravel driveway!

  20. Squirrelherder_24-7

You got all 3 food groups: asphalt, concrete and slag!

    Congratulations!

  21. InsuranceRound6705

It is a great brand for the rock collector who also likes to BBQ with garbage.

  22. Infamous-Zombie5172

Well, I guess that’s me done with them before I even buy a bag. That’s insane. Do they burn their wood in an abandoned quarry and just scoop up whatever?

as a bored lawyer, I really dream about a class action against these jokers. It’s pathetic at this point.

However, it appears that there really isn’t a Federal standard in the US for how much shit they can have in a bag that isn’t a briquette.

It’s time for the market to speak. STOP BUYING THIS SHIT BAG
