With the ‘Italy in a Goblet’ event, Colombia celebrated the 10th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. The initiative, organized by Ice – Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies, Italian Cultural Institute with the support of the Italian Embassy in Bogotá, brought together fifty professionals in the sector for a sensory journey through traditional Italian wines.

Protagonists of the tasting were iconic labels from Abruzzo, Calabria, Piedmont, Puglia, Sicily, Tuscany and Trentino. Sommelier Giovanni Calvano, trained with the Italian Sommelier Association, explained characteristics, grape varieties and maturation techniques, guiding participants on a journey through aromas, structure and vintages.

“Italian wine is an excellence,” recalled Ambassador Giancarlo Maria Curcio, emphasizing how Italy is consolidating its presence in Colombia as a great wine-making power and pointing out Italy’s supremacy in world production. “It has a quality-price ratio that is unparalleled,” he added.

According to Ice data, Italy is now the second largest European supplier of wine to Colombia. Exports grew by 26.4 percent between January and August, reaching $7.6 million and a 12.4 percent market share, in a country that is increasingly embracing the consumption of quality wines. “These numbers reflect an expanding market and growing interest from the Colombian public,” explained Rossella Difrancesco, Ice Bogotá director. “We continue to build bridges between our wineries and local importers, convinced that Italy still has much to offer in Colombia.”
