Silversea has a fleet of 12 intimate ships, including four expedition vessels and eight classic, ocean-going ships that travel to all seven continents. S.A.L.T. is incorporated into each of its classic itineraries, from Asia and South America to Northern Europe and the Caribbean and beyond.

The concept of S.A.L.T., which debuted on Silver Moon in 2021, was born in the Mediterranean, a cradle of culinary history, tradition and craftsmanship. As S.A.L.T. has spread to the rest of the fleet, its program has continued to evolve and grow. The program consists of six different elements. We’ll break them down for you.

S.A.L.T. Experiences transport travelers to local farms, vineyards and restaurants to learn about the cuisine of the Mediterranean.

What is S.A.L.T.?

S.A.L.T. is an immersive culinary program that offers experiences onboard Silversea’s Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, Silver Ray and Silver Nova (and Silver Muse, beginning December 21, 2025), and in port. What each element of the program shares is connecting culinary traditions with regions in which the ships are traveling.

While in port, S.A.L.T. Experiences, which are offered on every classic vessel in the fleet, are custom-designed trips in port that introduce guests to deeply rooted stories about food, wine and other traditions. Some of our favorite S.A.L.T. Experiences in the Mediterranean include The Heart and Soul of Greek Cooking: A Cretan Culinary Adventure at an Exceptional Organic Farm and S.A.L.T.’s Picnic with a View, Wine & Focaccia at Eco Farm La Portofinese, just outside of Portofino. Another memorable opportunity in the Mediterranean is S.A.L.T.’s Beauty of the French Riviera with Market and Lunch at Mirazur in Menton, on the French Riviera. Mirazur is one of the world’s best restaurants.

There’s more

Other elements of Silversea’s S.A.L.T. include S.A.L.T. Kitchen, where ever-changing menus focus on cuisine (and local wines and hand-crafted beers) inspired by the region – and by each port on your itinerary. S.A.L.T. Bar serves locally inspired cocktails that are crafted by expert mixologists. By day, hands-on classes are offered at S.A.L.T. Lab, a venue that enhances cultural understanding through cooking traditions.

On evenings aboard Silver Ray and Silver Nova, the lab space transforms into the S.A.L.T. Chef’s Table, a paired wine-and-multi-course showcase of our chefs’ creative expressions. Travelers can also join regional experts for S.A.L.T. Talks, conversational lectures that offer insight into a cuisine’s influence on culture, from ancient times to modern day.

S.A.L.T. Lab offers hands-on culinary experiences.

How does S.A.L.T. enrich your cruise experience?

What sets S.A.L.T. apart, Sachs tells us, “is the narrative approach we take to creating a holistic, immersive culinary experience. What that means is identifying the compelling food stories of a region and then seeking out the chefs, authors, experts, winemakers and producers who best represent that culture and cuisine.”

Silversea’s S.A.L.T. team collaborates with some of the region’s most creative chefs, cookbook authors, local historians, farmers, winemakers and other experts who share their compelling stories that reflect the places in which they live.

Do you have to be a hardcore culinary enthusiast to enjoy S.A.L.T.?

The great thing about S.A.L.T. is that through different venues and experiences, you can engage at your own pace, respecting varying degrees of interest and enthusiasms. You can stop by S.A.L.T. Kitchen and S.A.L.T. Bar for a quick taste of local cuisine; if your curiosity inspires you to learn more you can explore traditions and techniques behind those tastes. You can design your own intensive culinary journey by signing up for S.A.L.T. Experiences and hands-on classes in S.A.L.T. Lab.

There’s something for every level of curiosity.
