The team behind award-winning French bistro Le Comptoir du Vin runs this “American Irish” pub in Fells Point, which feels like someone’s home den rather than a bar with incredible food. Co-owners Will Mester, Rosemary Liss, and Millie Powell are churning out traditional Irish and English dishes with the use of ingredients from around the neighborhood.
You sort of have to get a Guinness, on draft and expertly poured. Also consider classic cocktails like the Bleu Martini or Blood & Sand. Of note: It’s only $8 for a shot and a Hamm’s.
While the cuisine is the draw, this is a pub to be sure. You can belly up to the dark wood bar in the front, or feel like you’re in a cozy den in the back with fireplaces and dartboards. A nice bonus? There are no TVs and hardly anyone was on their phones, making The Wren a lovely escape from the noise.
This makes for a warm, casual date night but we also noticed plenty of people solo dining or drinking after getting off work.
Once a month, the bar hosts a Scotch night where producers and distillers come in to talk about various varieties, which members can purchase at cost. Membership is $5.
