Sorry if this is a silly question, just wanted to be safe. Could I use just the pot on an electric ceramic hob or in the oven? I don't trust the lid handle not to melt in the oven.

  1. This has been asked before and the general consensus was no, the pot will likely break under the temperature stress. You may want to delete and just search it up here on reddit.

I would not risk either of those things. If you’re in need of an oven dish there are usually some nice ones at second hand stores.

For better quality second hand goods, check ones in the posher suburbs 🙂

  3. On a stovetop? Maybe, maybe not. It can break – maybe after the first time, maybe after the tenth.

In an oven? Definitely not, handle will either melt or burn.

I wouldn’t trust this on any heat source.

I think it would be fine as a mixing bowl, or for serving things.

I did an image search on your model and found the manual for it. And it does say not to expose the inner pot to extreme temp changes like a stovetop and it listed a bunch of other things. But it didn’t say anything about the oven just that the lid wouldn’t survive in the oven.

In short don’t bother using it in the oven. Seriously just get a Dutch oven and use that instead.

Get an oven dish from a thrift or consignment store. They usually have good finds.

Ignore the people reacting to you as if this isn’t a normal question for someone who is new to cooking or whatever. And the person suggesting you delete the thread is a little much and they’re probably having a bad morning lol.

Absolutely not. They are not built for oven or stove top use.

The black eyed peas all over my stove top and floor that one New Year’s Day say NO, please don’t!

  9. Don’t risk it. If it breaks, you won’t be able to find a new insert for your slow cooker. Go to the thrift store if you need something without a big spend.

I have used this model before.

I would expect the pot to crack on the hob and I’d expect the handle to melt in the oven.

You might be able to get away with putting the pot in the oven without a lid, but I wouldn’t risk it. This slow cooker is probably 50 years old – you likely won’t find replacement parts for it easily.

    Short answer is no.

Long answer: maybe as a service dish or something but that’s it.

If you need a dutch oven and don’t have the money, you could replace the handle on the top of the lid with something oven safe and work with that. It’s just one screw holding that handle on the top. I wouldn’t use it on the range, but it would be fine in the oven.

It should be safe in the oven but definitely not stove top safe.

I had this exact model and can confirm the pot will crack into pieces if you put it in the oven. Found out the hard way from a casserole gone wrong.

I have recently seen cooking pots in local supermarkets for like 20 euros, maybe look around a bit. Black friday is also coming up very soon

It’s not designed to be used that way, so no, it’s not recommended.

My mum used our one of these in the oven as a kid. It worked, but the handle melted. It was out of shape/hard to use, instead of a puddle.

  18. Rude_Highlight3889

Absolutely under no circumstances should this ever occur. The pot is meant to be used in conjuction with the slow cooking heating element and the slow cooking heating element alone.

  19. No. I suggest getting a ceramic/cast iron pot for that.

  20. Maybe not the lid in the oven but i put crockpots in oven or microwave frequently at 350f or under.

People need to realize these were kilned at 1600f, – 350f wont effect anything.
