Eataly Italian Market, the global Italian brand, will throw open its doors at CityPlace in West Palm Beach on Dec. 5.
The long-awaited food destination spans more than 23,000-square-feet in the former Harriet Himmel Theater within the heart of CityPlace.
Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 for the grand opening, which will feature complimentary tastings and shopping opportunities. A live DJ will turn the space into a late-night disco as the evening goes on.
Eataly West Palm Beach also will host a ribbon cutting on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m., with complimentary gifts for the first 100 guests. Following the ribbon cutting, the store will kick off its “10 Days of Celebration” program with product sampling, entertainment, and other activities scheduled for each day.
The mixed-use CityPlace complex is on the north side of Okeechobee Boulevard, just east of Interstate 95, at the gateway to West Palm Beach.
Eataly will have two restaurants, several quick service counters, a retail section, a cooking school and even a performance stage, all reflecting the company’s philosophy of “eat, shop and learn.”
One restaurant is La Pizza & La Pasta, focusing on Neapolitan-style pizza and artisinal pasta and featuring recipes from the north to the south of Italy. The restaurant will have a central bar, creating an anchor in the heart of the marketplace, and feature Italian wines, seasonal cocktails and non-alcoholic options.
The other restaurant is Il Pastaio, which translates to pasta maker. This eatery, dedicated to the art of fresh pasta making, allows guests to watch as experts craft an array of traditional pasta shapes daily. There are 20 seats inside and more than 60 seats across the outdoor patio.
If diners want to make their Eataly stop a quick trip, the market also has numerous counters for grab-and-go.
They include Lavazza, an all-day cafe with espresso-based beverages; La Pasticceria, a counter with croissants, mini-pastries and other baked goods; Il Gelato, with gelato and sorbetto creations; and Pizza alla Pala, serving Roman-style pizza, panini and stuffed farcita, which is bread filled with different ingredients.
Meanwhile, those wanting to pick up a few items to cook at home, or bring to someone else’s home, can browse the Eataly market.
Curated selections of extra virgin olive oils, sauces and pastas will be available for sale, as will sweet treats. Luxury shoppers can even purchase caviar and fresh truffles.
In addition, a fresh counter will offer selections of fresh pasta, premium meats including American Wagyu, and cut-to-order salumi, or Italian meat products, as well as cheeses.
Complementing the meats and the cheese, there will be wine, and lots of it. Eataly will have 200 labels from all 20 regions of Italy. Domestic and Italian beers also will be for sale.
In the alternative, Eataly next year will launch a catering and private dining program. It will also offer wine tstings, cooking classes and custom gift boxes.
There’s more.
This Eataly location also includes a performance stage, marking the first time that Eataly has offered this feature in North America. The performances will include live music, culinary demonstrations and other events. The stage is a nod to the history of the building, which was built in the 1920s as a church and performance hall.
Eataly helps put West Palm Beach on the map
The Eataly market is a longtime goal by Stephen Ross, chairman of Related Ross and the developer and owner of CityPlace.
Ross, West Palm Beach’s dominant developer, aggressively is trying to position the city as a “model” community featuring top industries such as finance and technology, upscale residences including apartments and condominiums, and a mix at CityPlace featuring the best retailers in food, furniture and apparel.
In a statement, Related Ross President Kenneth Himmel called the opening of Eataly “a defining moment for CityPlace and West Palm Beach.”
And Ross said Eataly’s presence underscores the “strength of this market and the quality of development that continues to define CityPlace and this region.”
The West Palm Beach Eataly marks the second Eataly location in South Florida.
In June, Eataly opened a location at Aventura in Miami-Dade County. Worldwide, Eataly has 60 locations across 15 countries.
In a statement, Tommaso Brusò, CEO of Eataly North America, said he was pleased to bring an authentic taste of Italy to West Palm Beach’s CityPlace, which he called “one of the city’s iconic destinations.”
