According to expert forecasts, in the 2025/26 MY Türkiye’s vegetable oil production will be slightly lower than last year – at 2.11 million tons (including 925.000 tons of sunflower oil). Annual oil consumption in the country will also decrease – to 2.66 million tons (sunflower oil will remain at the same level of 1.35 million tons). This was reported by Veysel Kaya, head of the analytical company SUNSEEDMAN, at the international conference AgroFood Summit 2025.

He noted that in the 2024/25 MY Türkiye increased vegetable oil production to 2.24 million tons. This is 24% higher than the previous season (1.8 million tons), but 11% lower than the record production volume of the 2022/23 MY (2.52 million tons. In the production structure, 40% accounted for sunflower oil (895.000 tons), 28% for soybean oil (625.000 tons), 18% for olive oil (400.000 tons), 8% for cottonseed oil (175.000 tons), and 5% for corn oil (100.000 tons).

As the speaker clarified, total vegetable oil consumption in Türkiye last season amounted to 2.75 million tons, including 1.35 million tons of sunflower oil, 0.65 million tons of palm oil, 300.000 tons of olive oil, 175.000 tons of cottonseed oil, 75.000 tons of soybean oil, and 50.000 tons of corn oil.

According to the head of SUNSEEDMAN, in the 2024 calendar year Türkiye imported 1.92 million tons of vegetable oils worth $2.08 billion. Of this volume, 1.09 million tons accounted for sunflower oil (worth $1.05 billion).

During the same period, Türkiye exported 1.4 million tons of vegetable oils worth $2.12 billion, including about 719.000 tons of sunflower oil worth $892.7 million.
