It’s a rite of passage for anyone in Sydney on New Year’s Eve to watch the fireworks display at the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Whalebridge, the Circular Quay venue right on the water’s edge, has one of the best seats in the house for it.
Whalebridge is part of Brett Sergeant and James Wicks’ the Sunday Co. portfolio. They took over the venue in 2023, and have set out to enhance the offering since – blending refined French cuisine with the energy of Sydney’s dining scene.
The venue will bring this energy to New Year’s Eve, when their annual celebration returns with free-flowing champagne paired with a menu curated by Culinary Director David Clarke.
Clarke says New Year’s Eve is such a famous Sydney occasion that they wanted to create a menu which feels equally as special.
“It’s a celebration of the ocean and the incredible produce we have access to here,” says Clarke.

Highlights include Oscietra caviar with crème fraîche and pomme de ter; fruits de mer featuring rock oysters, Skull Island prawns and tuna tartare; wagyu sirloin with red wine sauce and Tasmanian wasabi butter, and a citron tart with crème fraîche to finish. It’s paired with French champagne flowing all night, as well as a selection of wines from local and international producers.
Sunday Co. Managing Director Brett Sergeant says the annual New Year’s Eve event captures everything they love about Whalebridge including the spectacular harbour, exceptional produce, and a sense of occasion that’s distinctly Sydney.
“It’s an experience that brings together great food, great wine and one of the best views in the world,” Sergeant says.
The New Years Eve experience has two seating tiers including bistro water’s edge ($1,400pp) and bistro ($1,100pp). Bookings are now open via the Whalebridge website.
