The recall affects 24-centimeter milk pans sold under the Majestic Chef Pan brand name.
WASHINGTON — Shata Traders Inc. is recalling Chef Brand milk pans because they may contain significant levels of lead that could leach into food, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday.
The recall affects 24-centimeter milk pans sold under the Majestic Chef Pan brand name. The products were distributed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts.
The Brooklyn-based company issued the recall after FDA testing found the cookware contains leachable lead harmful to human consumption. The products are distributed in six-piece boxes and available individually at retail stores.
Lead exposure poses serious health risks to people of all ages, with no known safe exposure level, according to health officials. Children and fetuses are particularly vulnerable due to their smaller body size and rapid development.
Low levels of lead exposure in children can cause learning difficulties, reduced IQ and behavioral changes without obvious symptoms. Higher exposure levels may result in fatigue, headaches, stomach pain, vomiting and neurological problems in people of any age.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products.
Consumers who purchased the milk pans should stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
