The annual Southeastern Community College Multicultural Thanksgiving Dinner was held Thursday in the Hawk’s Nest on the college campus in West Burlington.
A packed crowd of about 300 students, faculty, staff and visitors enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving diner along with a sample of food prepared by International students.
There was a variety of Ukrainian favorites made by Anna Podobii, Anastasiia Holinata and Krystyna Bolokhovetska of Ukraine. They served Varenyky, Canape, Oliv’ye, Apple Charlotte and Sugar Cookies. Then students Deiner Contreras Hernandez, Juan Fernandez Urbina and Efrain Osorio Gonzalez from Venezuela served Cachapas and finally there was an Italian dish Pasta Al Forno made by Anna Infantino of Italy.
Each offering was gobbled up by the attendees.
To begin the night the international students, of which there are about 80 students at SCC from 30 different countries, shared a brief story about an important celebration held each year in their country.
Then it was time to eat and the line to the food was filled with poster boards with information about many of the countries were the international students hail from.
To conclude the night Mina Sunar from Nepal performed a variety of energetic dances from her country to the delight of the crowd.
