Middle Eastern Basbousa | Semolina Cake | Soft, Sweet & Delicious
Learn how to make Middle Eastern Basbousa — a moist, tender semolina cake soaked in aromatic syrup. This easy recipe is popular across Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, and the Gulf. For the Sugar Syrup (Qater)
1½ cups sugar
1 cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp rose water or orange blossom water (optional)
🍯 Instructions
1. In a pot, combine sugar + water.
2. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 7–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
3. Add lemon juice and optional rose/orange blossom water.
4. Set aside to cool completely.
NOTE : Basbousa syrup should be cool, cake hot.
