Somun Bread (2 Loaves)
Ingredients
• 500g flour
• 380g water (1.5-2 cups)
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• 1 packet instant dry yeast
• 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients at once until there are no dry spots left. Rest for 15 minutes.
2. After the resting period, knead the dough again until it becomes smooth. Let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
3. Divide the dough into two equal parts and let it rest on the counter for 15 minutes as shown in the video. Shape the dough.
4. After the final proofing, make slashes on top of the dough. Bake in a preheated oven at 230°C (446°F) with plenty of steam for 20 minutes.
To Create Steam in Your Oven
Place an empty, oven-safe tray on the lowest rack of your oven while it preheats. Once the oven is hot, pour 3-4 ice cubes or a small amount of hot water into the tray just before baking.
