That's a bubble in the glass of a brand new Ball quart jar fresh out of the package. Am I correct that it is no good for pressure or water bath canning?

I've never noticed this before in any of my jars, but I've not been looking for it. How common is this?

    Yeah, I wouldn’t trust that one in a canner of any type, I’d use it for dry storage. In my experience this isn’t common at all. I’ve never seen it before and we don’t see it frequently on here (and we get quite a few jar/ lid complaints lol) so I think we can safely assume that this is unusual.

    No that’s a dry gift jar now, stick some caramels or fairy lights in it and call it a day.

    Learn to dehydrate fruits and veggies if you don’t know how. It’s simple and that’s how I retire my pressure canning jars.
