Anyone seen this or have an idea how to fix it. I was on only my 12th batch when the lid failed as shown while canning. For the handle to fail like it did after such a short time was really alarming to me!

I reached out to Ball and I’m obviously well within the return window as it was purchased on the 6th of this month but I would really like to keep on going through the weekend and I can’t get this handle to go back on and stay!

Do you have another pot lid that would work? For water bath canning, I don’t think the lid doesn’t have to be a perfect fit. Or maybe zip over to a secondhand store to find just a lid?

I would try to push the rivet out of the lids and go to the local hardware store and find a stainless nut and bolt that fits, I would get a nylon lock nut and don’t over tighten it , it only needs to be snug, also make sure the little plastic washer stays in the glass

Drilling out rivets can be a pain in the ass. Instead of trying to drill the rivet out to put a nut & bolt through. Put the handle back on & peen the rivet bigger. If the handle won’t just go back over the rivet head, use a socket and a hammer to tap on the handle and force it back over the rivet head. Then put the underside of the rivet against something solid, preferably metal & peen the head of the rivet bigger so the handle doesn’t come back off. The rounded end of a “BALL PEEN” hammer was originally designed to peen rivet heads. If you google how to peen a rivet, there’ll be YouTube videos on how to do it.
