We got this wine for Thanksgiving because it looked cool, and after we started looking into it through a few different websites, we only have questions. Can anyone tell us what we have? Neither of us are big wine people, so please translate the wine lingo into lamens terms if possible 😅

    A decent orange petillant naturel.

It’s a sparkling wine made from white grapes with skin contact, that’s unfiltered, and has a lighter fizz than champagne.

Pet nat – what a joy! Lamens terms – hippy fizzy drink with alcohol

Looks like she grabbed a Lunaria Pinot Grigio Ancestrale, it’s an Italian natural / “orange” style sparkling-ish wine made with minimal intervention.

Look up “pét nat” and “orange wine”.

What you have is an orange pét nat of pinot grigio from italy. The grapes are grown by usda organic and Demeter biodynamic standards, which means this wine was created in a very natural process.

Please come back and ask questions if you’re still unsure after looking up what a “pet nat” is and what “orange wine” is. 🙂

A risk! But you are doing edge play together, which is great for couples to bond!

Make sure that thing is extra cold and absolutely keep it from sloshing around before opening. When you open it, do in over your sink. Make sure to let it settle a bit before you pour it bc it is active af. The wine is basically still fermenting when they cap it so be super careful.

Clever touch adding the wool. Allowing you to imaging rolling green vineyards, scattered by fat, happy sheep.

If any cool kids show up tell them you got “natty farmer fizz”.
It checks all the hipster boxes:
    v orange/skin contact
    v organic
    v biodynamic
    v no added sulfites
    v unfiltered
v “ancient/ancestral method” just like grandpa could have but probably didn’t

Would be good for brunch or as an aperitif.

It might, or might not, be quite tasty. I am currently drinking a Santa Julia El Zorrito, same basic growing/wine-making techniques.

It’s delightful (tho r/wine is downvoting me).

It clean and crisp and tasty.

Solid Italian producer of organic and limited intervention wines. It will probably be interesting in the good way, but not necessarily for everyone.

    An unfiltered “orange wine”

Should be very tasty! A little more interesting than your “run of the mill” Pinot Grigio

Something uniquely interesting! I’d open that right away if that was my gift!

Looks nice, sounds nice, taste nice or mostly not. But hey, that’s nowdays trend..

  15. I’ve had this before and even though this style isn’t generally something I enjoy, I liked this quite a bit.

I tend to think of wines like this more as beers, if that makes sense? Like, I know it’s a very old and traditional style of wine, but the way I taste and perceive them just reminds me more of how I enjoy beer.

What you’re looking at is essentially white wine aged with skin contact. That adds texture (tannins) which changes the mouthfeel, and aromatically emits notes of lychee, rose petal, and orange blossom. Since it’s aged as a pet nat, it’s effervescent, with naturally occurring sediment that was not filtered out, and natural fermentation gives it more VA (volatile acidity.)

I love stumbling across this bottle on Reddit. I used to work for this importer as a distributor rep before they went national. An old friend I used to work with found these wines and was importing them with help from Serendipity but he sadly passed a few years ago. RIP buddy, I hope you’re drinking something fun today.

Lunaria Orsogna are a sick biodynamic winery from Marche in Italy. It’s a pet nat, so sparkling orange wine. A cool thing about lunaria, is they actually employ disabled or mentally challenged people in their Provence to tie those strings on all of their bottles. Great wine, they do a banging pecorino.

  19. Great producer, they make an awesome Primitivo and Montepulciano.

Looking like some skin contact badassery. This is usually the only way I drink Pinot Gris nowadays. I love the funkiness of it.

  21. If you wrung out old diapers and dirty sheets from a rundown nursing home, you’ll get something that tastes like orange wine.

You know, natural fermentation and all.

If it helps, “from sheep in our vineyards” refers only to the wool yarn. I doubt there are any sheep products in the wine, lol
