I thought I knew waffles. I was so wrong. Crispy outside, cloud-like inside, perfect golden color. This is what I've been chasing all along. Now I'm obsessed. Any tips to recreate this magic at home? I NEED this back in my life.

That looks so good! The funny thing is, Walmart used to sell really delicious Belgian waffles that looked like that. I sold them with fancy toppings at my coffee shop. ๐Ÿ˜‚They were such a hit!ย

Do you know if they were leavened with yeast or baking powder?

I’m jealous, btw. Waffles are one of my favorite foods.

My mom would make us this kind of waffles, i remember what made them so light crispy and airy was folding in beaten fluffy egg whites into the batter. I think people just use the same batter for pancakes/waffles now a days so theyโ€™re more cakey- but the crispy ones have always been my favorite

My MIL makes waffles that are crispy, light and delicious just like these! It’s a yeasted dough that she makes the day before.

If they were light inside, they were likely [Brussels-style waffles](https://www.tasteatlas.com/brussels-waffles/recipe#modal), as opposed to Liรจge waffles which are denser. Also get a Belgian waffle maker.

Edit: I stand corrected! OP, while youโ€™re in Belgium you might also want to get pearl sugar to recreate those Liรจge waffles, although theyโ€™re also likely available in a good gourmet store where you live.

Is that a vanilla sauce drizzled over it? Ohmygosh, it looks so amazing!

I don’t know if they are remotely the same but Mark Bittman has a recipe for Leige Waffles in his cookbook that is absolutely amazing. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Of course the secret is tons of butter.

The best waffle I’ve ever made at home used a tiny bit of leftover cinnamon apple sauce and it was super fluffy inside with a perfect nearly crunchy outer texture.

I guess it was due to the acidity and fruit pulp. I’ve never gotten those textures again, but it sounds like what you’re describing.

Whoa! Is that a chocolate Cherub in that waffle, I think Iโ€™m in love ๐Ÿฅฐ

It seems wrong that they are pre made like that. The toppings are going to soak into waffle.

I had a waffle in Belgium and it was the best waffle Iโ€™ve ever had. They know what theyโ€™re doing over there.

I went to Italy a few years ago and had the best croissant I have ever had. I will be chasing it for the rest of my life as a home baker

ALWAYS!! cook part of the liquid and the flour in a pan to make the cloud like softness. idk why but it makes it so much softer

Do they still sell gaufres on the street? Those are the best ones, they come out warm and fresh with all that chunky sugar. Havenโ€™t had one in ages
