As the leaves turn, we nestle into the kitchen, seeking warmth from the oven, the hearth, the bubbling pot of soup on the stove. In our humble opinion, fall and winter are prime times to take a cooking class—and luckily for us, the Twin Cities’ culinary education scene is flourishing.
Cooks of Crocus Hill, a longtime institution for both kitchen retail and cooking classes, is transforming its entire North Loop location into a space for classes. The shift creates even more opportunities for Cooks, such as extending typical two-hour class formats into full-day workshops—like a deep dive into Italian or French cuisine or an all-day session with a chocolatier. (Cooks is also launching culinary travel—stay tuned.)
Meanwhile, in St. Louis Park, Bakehouse (sister space to bakery Honey and Rye) is a burgeoning hot spot for classes focused on all things flour, butter, dough, and batter. Build-a-cake date nights, bagels 101, focaccia at home, and even gluten-free breakfast basics are taught by skilled bakers behind local pop-ups and bakeries.
If fresh mozzarella, stuffed pastas, pizza, and wine classes are more your jam, south Minneapolis’s France 44 Wines and Spirits is the spot.
As the holidays approach, it’s never too early to start scheming for your culinarily inclined friends and family.
