Prior to his current position, Mr. D’Epiro served as an executive chef for production and food service companies from 2009 to 2018. Here, he worked as an executive chef, culinary consultant, author and teacher, contributing to the development of educational and consulting initiatives in the culinary field. Earlier in his career, from 1996 to 2009, Mr. D’Epiro served as the head chef at Ristorante Barberini in Rome, Italy. Through his leadership and talent, the restaurant became one of the city’s top traditional dining establishments and earned recognition in multiple restaurant guides.
Born and raised in the Eternal City of Rome, Mr. D’Epiro first discovered his love for cooking in his grandmother’s kitchen, where he spent countless hours learning to make fresh pasta, bread and cakes. A lifelong lover of teamwork and discipline, he also played rugby for over a decade with the prestigious A.S. Rugby Frascati club.
Mr. D’Epiro earned his technical diploma in culinary arts and hospitality from the Istituti Professionali di Stato per i Servizi Alberghieri e Ristorazione in Rome in 1996, graduating at the top of his class. He also holds a Certificato Professionale di Cucina e Pasticceria from P. Artusi in Rome, which he obtained in 1994. During his studies, he completed internships at several prestigious hotels and restaurants in downtown Rome. At just 19 years old, Mr. D’Epiro became the youngest head chef in Italy when he was appointed to lead Ristorante Barberini in the heart of Rome.
Throughout his career, Mr. D’Epiro has received numerous national and international awards recognizing his culinary excellence and contributions to the profession. These honors include WASB Business Honor Roll 2025, Taher Pivot Award 2022, Account of the Year from TouchPoint Support Services in 2016, DishUp Chef of the Year in 2012 and honored in Le Club des Amis du Cordon Bleu at Le Cordon Bleu Paris in 2011. Mr. D’Epiro was also awarded second place for Best First Cookbook in the World at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2009, following his win for Best First Cookbook in Italy from the same organization in 2008.
Mr. D’Epiro’s additional accolades include being a member of the esteemed Taher Chef Council, the Distinguished Chef Award from Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2008, honorary chef and professor of cuisine and culture of Italy at Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2007 and recognition as a lifelong friend of The Scotch Whisky Heritage Center in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2001. His earlier distinctions include the Menu Award from Menu magazine in 1998, Premio Dieta Mediterranea per i Giovani in 1994 and a student award from IPSSAR that same year.
Notably, in 2024, Mr. D’Epiro was selected as one of the world’s featured testimonials at the Crunchyroll World Anime Awards Ceremony broadcast from Tokyo, Japan, reflecting his lifelong passion for Japanese anime, which has inspired his creativity and fueled his culinary vision. He is also the author of “The Art of Cooking According to Me” and “La Cucina Secondo Me! Ricette, Storie e Filosofia di Benny the Chef,” works that showcase his culinary philosophy and approach to Italian cuisine.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. D’Epiro enjoys cosplaying, traveling, hiking and spending time outdoors.
