DANVILLE, CA — Flaming steaks and cocktails are headed to the heart of downtown Danville Friday night for the soft opening launch of Taverna Sorrentina, an Italian restaurant opening in the former location of Isola Osteria.
The new restaurant at 100 Railroad Avenue will be run by Valerio Piscopo, Giovanni Della Peruta, and Rosario Mazzocchi, according to a report in Diablo Magazine. All three chefs were born and raised in the Naples and Amalfi Coast regions of Italy, and spent years working together at Locanda Ravello in Danville.
As its name indicates, the restaurant features a contemporary twist on the cuisine native to Sorrento, a pastel-colored paradise nestled along the hills of Italy’s legendary Amalfi Coast. Regional specialties include the Insalata di Sorrento, a salad with grapes, apples, arugula, bleu cheese, and almonds with an orange rosé vinaigrette; Fritto di Calamari e Gamberi, a seafood food platter common along the Amalfi and Napoli coasts; the Salmone alla N’erano, a seafood take on the classic Spaghetti alla Nerano; and the Sorrento Cheesecake, a cheesecake made with ricotta.
See their full menu by scrolling through this Instagram post, which includes salads, antipasti, primi, secondi, desserts, and salads.
In the dramatic style of the region, chefs will prepare flame-finished steaks, flaming cocktails, and tiramisu made from scratch in front of guests.
Guests can enjoy all this and more at the soft launch, which will take place Friday from 5-9 p.m. at 100 Railroad Avenue. Call 925-269-6998 or visit their Instagram page for more information.
“Food is everything we are,” the restaurant said on Instagram.”It encompasses an extension of our pride, ethnic identity, personal history, as well as our connections to our province, region, tribe, and familial heritage. These elements are inherently intertwined from the very beginning.”
