Babel, an upscale Mediterranean dining concept, will open its first-ever location in Dallas on Nov. 28, bringing refined, Levantine-inspired cuisine to Uptown’s Turtle Creek neighborhood at 3180 Welborn St.
Located inside the Centrum building and formerly home to Steel Restaurant, Babel redefines Mediterranean elegance through a menu grounded in culturally authentic flavors, contemporary design and a commitment to attentive service. The concept is the latest venture from Mo Kamal, the seasoned restaurateur behind the Oak Lawn favorite Open Sesame.
“With Babel, I wanted to create something that feels deeply personal, shaped by the food and table traditions of my childhood,” said Kamal in a statement. “Dallas is ready for an experience that reflects that spirit. Our goal is to offer dishes that honor their origins, presented with refinement and served in a setting that invites people to slow down, connect and truly savor the moment.”
Under the direction of Chef Zeina Kamal, Babel’s kitchen reinterprets Mediterranean traditions through vibrant mezze, expertly grilled proteins and seafood and vegetarian dishes that highlight regional flavors. The menu will feature standout creations such as the savory Shish Barak, spiced Batata Harra and a fresh Fattoush salad, offering guests a genuine taste of modern Levantine fare.
“Mediterranean cuisine is honest, lively and inherently soulful, and our goal at Babel is to honor those traditions with precision and care,” said Zeina Kamal. “We focus on technique — from peeling every chickpea for the smoothest hummus to sourcing olive oil directly from Lebanon — because those details matter. Every dish is crafted to showcase the purity of flavor and the beauty of simplicity. We want guests to taste the story behind the food and feel the pride we put into every plate.”
Designed by Summer Jansen, Babel’s interiors offer a modern interpretation of ancient Babylon, beginning with a grand 18th-century door that opens into a space where heritage meets contemporary design. Limewash walls, natural stone accents, sculptural arches and a Mediterranean-inspired neutral palette create a serene, elevated atmosphere. The main dining room is accentuated by Egyptian artist Dina Elsaid’s hand-painted celestial mural, casting an ethereal energy that sets the tone for the entire restaurant — further heightened by the brooding, brass-accented Cove and the intimate, blue-washed Lapis Room.
With an immersive, layered ambiance and purposeful design, this restaurant offers an inviting yet upscale setting for romantic evenings, business gatherings, milestone celebrations and family meals. Babel presents Mediterranean fine dining that is sophisticated without pretension and deeply rooted in tradition.
The restaurant will be open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m., Friday from 4 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m. Babel will be closed on Sundays.
