I wouldn’t bake in it but you can for a few minutes to melt cheese over french onion soup or something similar. Few minutes

I have these same bowls. I put them in my oven. Granted I use broil and they’re only in for a minute though (my soup is hot when it hits these bowls, I only use the oven to hit the cheese)

Absolutely. It’s designed for French onion soup.

They look fired, but with no markings or knowledge of the glaze we are not going to say yes. Keep them under 250 I would say

They look ceramic. If they are, then yes. 400 is well within the range for ceramics. If they’re not fully ceramic then you should refer to type of material used. Likely on a tag or something.

I serve a lot of French onion soup at my restaurant. Same bowl (at least from looking at it). I don’t understand why you’d put it in the oven for 40 minutes.
Heat your soup up in a pot on the stove. Pour into your bowl. Add bread, then cheese and put it in the oven, on broil until the cheese brulees. Alternatively, you can use a torch. I recommend placing the bowl on a pan to take in and out if the over easier

Those brown soup crocks are oven safe. Yes, you can put them in the oven.

USE A DRIP TRAY (or sheet) THOUGH! I used a mason pot like these and didn’t see a small crack on the bottom till it was too late. Apartment smelled like burnt onions for a week

They were likely fired in a kiln when made so I wouldn’t worry about it!

weren’t they made in an oven?

I think crème brûlée or Mexican cheese dips are kept warm in ceramic in the oven

Ok what no one has said. So I want you to be aware. These handles get mega mega hot. Especially if you nuke them. You’re going to oven so you’re likely going to be more aware. But if you ever microwave them, even a short time. They reach fusion levels of temperature. Melt the skin stuff.

Technically you can put any bowl in an oven

You can use them in the oven but I don’t trust the handles. I use a tea towel or oven mitts to move the hot bowls onto a tray on the way to the placemat. Had a handle break, could’ve got ugly.

As many others have said, yes, these are designed to go in the oven. I see you commented they were thrifted, so I would double check and make sure the glaze isn’t chipped anywhere. Enjoy your soup! They would also work to make amazing baked oats, too.

Wow, I haven’t seen those since the 80s.

You can put anything in the oven if you try hard enough.

Yes! I have these exact ones and use them to finish soups all the time.

French Onion from Costco I see.
Wife and I have those same crocs and just did this last night.

Found it useful to put the soup package in a Tupperware in the sink and run tap on HOT for 5 minutes first. Soup is frozen solid, so cuts time down significantly.

Or do the same, Mic it for 2 mins then oven for 5-10.

Note: soup needs 1/2 tbsp of soy added. Raises the flavor. …And extra cheese if you’re amenable.
