Hello everyone!
This is the meal we've got today in Florence. Is this a proper Italian food or we got scammed? We've been at a local place, not touristy at all.

not what I would’ve gone for in Florence personally, but yes, that’s a legit dish. *Roast beef* is common enough and indeed one of my favorite dishes. Recipe may and will vary slightly based on where you are.

Pretty sure the recipe isn’t originally Italian (possibly UK?), but it’s common enough for Italians to eat it and the pic looks like a completely normal version of it.

Clearly stolen from the UK, but looks like they’ve made a nice job of it.

Hey OP you can always do a search for typical Florentine dishes and prioritize those, never a bad idea to learn a cuisine with, but I’ve definitely eaten similar things in Italy and those potatoes in particular look delicious

I’d get some lampredotto, crostini toscani, trippa or bistecca, ragu di cinghiale, also some pappa al pomodoro

I have been eating that very often during my childhood, I came from less than 1 hour from Florence

Yes, but we would have it with some greens too. It’s usually roast veal as a secondo
