Set up a ghetto grill using some old house bricks and the grill grate off an old Hibachi. Burned down regularly firewood to coals then grilled up some aged beef (local, Australian). I've got every type of gas / coal grill you could ever need but this was by far the most enjoyable cook so far. Hot day, cold beers – awesome. Cheers

i have pretty much the same setup but can’t afford bricks so i use logs to support the grill

Some ppl would pay good money for this “rustic charcoal BBQ grill”

Nothing wrong with this grill. Bet that food tastes great.

What is ghetto about it exactly? Looks makeshift to me.

Nice cook though, looks like it tastes amazing.

Ingenuity. Nothing wrong with that. Cheers!

The only ghetto grill is on Paul Walls teeth. This looks fun to cook on

It needs a bigger grill to fit the coals burning.

    “Makeshift” works better than “Ghetto”.

I’ve seen almost this set up on the BBQ edition of Chefs table.

Easily controllable bed of coals, nice this grate. Looks like a good time to me.

If you go to old school fancy wineries in Italy, their setup for grilling is more similar to this than any BGE situation. This is legit. Grill on!

Let’s see private backyard, nice Lab and private house. What ghetto is this I want to move in! Also that grill is far from ghetto. Cut an oil barrel in half throw some carbon steel lattice sheet on top with wood fire and then you got ghetto.

fire makes food yummy – I have used worse lol

    cheers!

That’s absolutely great! Congrats on ingenuity!

Nah… A tilted shopping cart… That is a ghetto grill

This is all fine until one of those bricks explodes. At best, dinner is ruined. At worst someone gets burned or otherwise injured by flying hot shrapnel. Get some actual fire bricks and this is a perfectly serviceable setup.

    Ghetto? Wtf?

There is nothing “ghetto” about this set up. It is a scaled down version of a cinder block pit used to cook whole hogs and large cuts.

  17. Ruby5000

Fuck that! That’s bad ass grilling!!!!! I bet the bars get super hot with that setup.

  18. There is something special about going primitive when cooking. It is not convenient enough for every day, but a swinging grate over a fire pit is awesome. This setup looks clean and practical, especially if you were already burning a fire

  19. Shorelines1

That’s exactly how a lot of pros do it

Go where people cook everything over fire. This setup is classic not ghetto

    I’m on my way!
Actually, I’m literally on my way. Missus and I are coming to Aus for a 5 month camper van tour, so outdoors grilling of steaks and large prawns is in our future…

    More like a righteous grill

Ghetto checking in. This looks boogie AF. Nice set up.

Primitive cooking in a modern setting! 🍻🤙🏽

  25. Secret_Paper2639

Nothing ghetto about it, that’s a chef and thermodynamic nerds wet dream

  26. Gahagafaga667

Sorry if I caused any offence – I’m an Aussie and I guess we use the term Ghetto figuratively rather than literally. Cooking low tech like this is the best way to go imho.

Doggo’s name is Millie, golden retriever. She copped a few nice lamb bones to chomp on while we ate the prime cuts.

    Hope everyone’s well. Cheers.

Shit looks good to me. My only gripe is the amount of charcoal used to cook 2 steaks. Hopefully a bunch more shit got cooked that we didn’t get to see. Either way, I’m eatin…

Bullshit that is a work of art with a beautiful utilitarian function. Be proud of it fellow grill master!
