St. Helens collects donations for Christmas food drive

St. Helens is ringing in the season of giving with a food drive benefitting the Columbia Pacific Food Bank.

Until Dec. 15, the city will collect food for neighbors in need during the holidays. The Christmas food drive follows a successful effort for Thanksgiving, in which the St. Helens community donated 1,208 pounds of food, according to the city.

Community members are encouraged to donate nonperishable foods, including the following most-wanted items:

Canned meats, such as tuna, salmon, chicken and corned beef.
Canned soups and chili.
Canned vegetables and fruits.
Peanut butter and almond butter.

Donations can be dropped off around town at these locations:

St. Helens City Hall, open from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at 265 Strand St.
St. Helens City Hall Annex, open from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at 275 Strand St.
St. Helens Council Chambers, open during public meeting hours at 265 Strand St.
St. Helens Community Center, open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday at 2625 Gable Road.
St. Helens Public Library, open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 375 S. 18th St.
St. Helens Public Works City Shop, open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at 984 Oregon St.
St. Helens Police Department, which has a 24/7 donation barrel outside of its location at 150 S. 13th St. Only canned goods can be donated at this site.

Dining and Cooking
